I went away for the last few months and as much as tropical sunsets, dreaming of Sawyer, and having cocktails on the beach with the locals were great, I was gutted on my return to realise I had missed the beginnings of my favourite shows; Lost and 24. I know I sound like a loser, but after so long away comfort is good and I take comfort in American Cult telly and it’s hard not to think of Lost when in such dreamy locations, obviously without the plane crashes etc....
You will imagine my excitement when I discovered Lost was not lost and 24 hours later I was watching 24! Thanks to my wonderful friend, who showed me Sky Player, I haven’t missed anything and better still I got to catch up on the ones I missed.
Thanks to this super duper, telly- laptop cable thingi, Wi-Fi, blue Doritos and a technically -minded housemate, you had us watching season 5 and most of 6 well into the night. How I missed those sun kissed, bare chested characters. It felt like I was truly home. You can watch Sky Player in a normal browser window or download their special Sky Player, for extra features such as offline viewing and programme bookmarking. (PC-only). Ahhh. The wonders of modern technology. Have also discovered that if aforementioned housemate, gets irked by obsessive cult TV watching- She gets her laptop and she takes the wonder cable to her room to watch America’s Next Model, which we will never agree on... When playing nice Aunty Annie I can вЂshut up’- I mean placate my nieces, with Cbeebies on demand, don’t tell my sister!
You can get Sky Player, without subscriptions etc., to watch stuff as you would on Four OD or BBC Iplayer, which of course we do- it means less adverts and more viewable TV, instead of lamely hopping through hours of car-crash telly before finding something you can bear to stick to. You can pay to watch individual shows or films on the Sky Player model or whole series without signing up for the whole subscription kaboodle. So it’s good for stuff you can’t wait to see, but obviously isn’t free like the other вЂplayer’ telly.
Maybe there was a certain excitement in knowing that when you went to work you could all talk about that film you saw last night on BBC2 and making the decision about what you wanted to watch was easier, there is so much choice and option to choose these days, it can get a bit much. Nonetheless it’s totally worth it and now I’m going to spend the day вЂworking’ from home with Jack Bauer...
