Killer Golf Flexibility: Stretching for Lower Back Muscles & Hip Joints

Do golfers need to be athletic or not? That crazy question gets debated daily by proponents of both sides. But the truth is - the silly argument doesn't matter - because one thing is for definite... Golfers who exercise wisely, following a targeted, golf specific exercise routine - perform better on and off the course than their out of shape golf pals.

This leads us to the next question: What is a well structured, golf specific exercise program?

Any golf specific conditioning program worth it's salt should be built on a foundation of full-body, golf flexibility. Without flexibility - nothing else matters. If you have the proper stretching routine in place - then you have laid the foundation to add the other essential golf conditioning components.

Those components are:

ONE - Core Training for Golf - The core is the center of power, balance and injury prevention for the golfer. You lift all the weights you want and pump up on all the machines you desire - but without proper core functionality - you are wasting your time.

TWO - Strength-Durance for Golf - In addition to flexibility, the golfer needs a balanced combination of strength and endurance.

The synergies between these golf fitness components give adequate stimulation to the areas of the body in amounts which are appropriate for the sport.

Additionally, when stretching is the foundation of your golf exercise program - there are other tremendous benefits which go beyond a golfer's performance on the course.

Some of those benefits are:

ONE - Reduction in aches and pains - both acute and chronic.

TWO - Faster between-round recovery and recuperation.

THREE - Prevention/reduced chances of future golf injuries (neck, back, hips, shoulders, etc...)

FOUR - Better performance in the bedroom - regardless of age.

It's important to note - when you begin your golf stretching plan - that you place initial focus on golf stretches for your back and hips. From there you can simply add to it, one body zone at a time.

Your ideal flexibility routine will consist of a longer version which can be done daily - or every other day. And it will also include a shorter variation which you can do when you are pressed for time - or just before heading out from the clubhouse.

You will also get more results by stretching before hitting the practice range and before lessons. It is also extremely beneficial to stretch after each round is you have the time to do it.
