Having a nice looking ceiling fan in the room can really add a nice touch and feel to it. If your room currently has a ceiling fan, installing a new one is fairly simple. If the room does not already have a ceiling fan be sure to hire a professional to run the wires and set up the box for you.
The first thing you have to do when installing a new ceiling fan is to read the instructions and make sure that you have everything you need to do the install. Most ceiling fans will require you to have a preapproved ceiling and wiring box. Make sure you have the box and are able to set it up properly. Having attic or ceiling access will make this job go quick.
To do this, first make sure that the circuit power is shut off. You don't want to shock yourself to death installing a ceiling fan. That would not be a good way to go.
Next step is to remove the actual lighting fixture. If it is a standard dome globe, simply unscrew the screws around the globe and pull it off very carefully. Then remove the actual light bulbs and also unscrew the current screws that are attached to the ceiling fan mounting base.
The base will now be loose enough to pull it down a ways from the ceiling. Go ahead and take off all the wire covering including any electrical tape or electric caps. Then just loosen the screws and disconnect the wires and fasteners that are attaching the box to the cables.
Once the old box is completely removed, then you can go ahead and read the instructions for your new mounting box and assemble and attach it. First you might be required to install the hanger bars and then the ceiling box. The hangers should go through the ceiling hole and attach or mount into the ceiling joists.
Now that you have the new box mounted and secure, it is time to assemble and put together your new ceiling fan. Make sure to follow all of the instructions that came with the fan. All ceiling fans are going to have a different way to assemble and install them so don't just guess about how to go about doing it.
For this step you are going to need help from someone to hold the fan while you attach and connect all of the wires. Match the wires up appropriately and fasten the new ceiling fan to the box securely. Then go ahead and hook on the fan blades properly.
Now all you have to do is turn the power on and test it. If it works, fantastic job! If it doesn't, it might be time to call a professional and have them do it for you.
