There are a lot of things to think about when purchasing a new duvet. Here is a list of the top 5 things to be on the lookout for when you are shopping. 5. Country of Origin Duvets made overseas tend to be less expensive, but when you look at the quality of materials used you quickly find out why. Low quality wools and scraps are used as filling for many of these lower priced duvets, this gives less loft and therefore less warmth. 4. The TOG Rating The TOG rating is used to rate the warmth of a duvet. The higher the number, the warmer it will be. If you live in a warm climate get a duvet with a TOG of about 5, colder climates should stick to TOG ratings of higher than 6. 3. The type of construction There are two main types of duvet construction, fixed box and walled box. Walled box construction tends to allow more loft, giving a higher TOG, which in turn makes for a warmer duvet. 2. The size Some people prefer to have that nice, full looking bed, like the ones seen in magazines and on TV. This is achieved by using a duvet that is a size bigger than the bed you are using it on. Buying a size bigger also allows you to wrap yourself up in the duvet without taking all of the blanket from anyone sharing the bed. 1. The fill The most important factor to think about when choosing a duvet is the fill. There are many to choose from, but the best are always natural. Natural fills allow for warmth and breathability, they also tend to be higher in price. The best of the natural fillings of course is down. Down gives a nice high loft with a wonderfully high TOG rating, while still remaining breathable and light. For more information on duvet bedding check out The Duvet Bedding Guide. |
